The Spring Hill College women’s soccer team picked up their first win of the season with an impressive 6-1 victory over the Lady Eagles of Faulkner University at home on Friday afternoon. Spring Hill (1-2) out-shot Faulkner 31 to 7 for the game, including a 27-0 margin at the half.
The Lady Badgers opened the scoring just 88 seconds into the match as Sarah Engels, a junior midfielder from St. Louis, Mo., drove the first shot of the game into the net.
Later, at 12:13 senior team captain Jennifer Huber of St. Louis added the second goal off an assist by Kasey Pruett, a sophomore forward from Flower Mound, Tex. The Badger barrage continued throughout the first half as Pruett would add a third goal at 23:26 and assist in the fourth goal scored by freshman Kelli Duncan of Clinton, Miss., at 33:36.
Engels added another point to her totals by assisting junior Maureen Sargent of Town & Country, Mo., with the fifth Badger goal at 40:24.
In the second period, Faulkner’s All-American forward Nikki Jagt broke the Eagle drought with a goal at 72:49.
Pruett added her second goal and fourth point of the day at 75:19 with the final goal of the match at 75:19. Senior goalie Shannon Netherby secured her first win of the campaign and saved the only shot on goal she faced.
Spring Hill now plays Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) at home on Sunday at noon.
