Softball Wins Two at Belhaven Tournament

The Spring Hill College softball team won two games and lost one at the Belhaven College “Elite Eight” Tournament in Jackson, Miss., on Saturday afternoon.
In the first game, the Lady Badgers won 2-0 in extra innings as Jessica Walters drove in Lindsey Taylor from third with a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning. Brittany Abate then followed with a single to left-center that scored Becky Todd. Samantha Brooks collected the complete-game shut out while scattering five hits with seven strikeouts.
The second game saw the Lady Badgers fall to LSU-Alexandria by the score of 6-3 in a contest highlighted by junior Jessica Scallan’s three-run home run in the sixth inning.
In final game of the day, the Lady Badgers belted out 14 hits in a 7-5 come-from-behind victory over Lyon College (Ark.). Scallan continued to roll collecting three doubles and four RBI. Abate, Todd, Walters, Brooks and starting pitcher Lauren Herrera each tallied two hits in the game. Brooks (5-1) recorded her second win of the day in relief adding four more strikeouts to her day’s work.
The Lady Badgers (8-5) host LSU-Alexandria in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 1 p.m.
