The Spring Hill College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at Thomas University (Ga.) losing the first game 8-3 but rebounding to take the second game 9-2 on Saturday.

In the first game, SHC starter Brittany Abate (5-1) gave up four runs in the first inning leaving Spring Hill with a 4-2 deficit after the opening frame.  Abate lasted two innings and allowed four hits, two walks and one strikeout before being relieved by Samantha Brooks to open the third inning.

At the plate, Lindsey Taylor collected two hits in four at-bats for the Lady Badgers.

The second game saw the Lady Badgers regroup and win the nightcap 9-2.  Sophomore Carlene Bolton (1-0), normally a relief pitcher, won her first start for Spring Hill allowing two runs off eight hits, two walks and two strikeouts in five innings of work.  Brooks completed the game with one hit and three strikeouts.

Four Lady Badgers collected two hits apiece in the second game.  Abate, Bolton, Jessica Scallan and Jessica Walters each had a pair of hits with Walters and Abate each collecting two RBI.  Scallan also belted her second homer of the year.

The Lady Badgers (15-14) next play a non-conference doubleheader at Warner Southern College in Lake Wales, Fla., on Monday beginning at 2 p.m.
