Softball Swept at Mobile

Game at a glance
The No. 7 University of Mobile softball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Spring Hill on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Rams took the first game 7-0 and finished with an 11-2 victory in the finale.
In the opener, the Lady Rams scored three in the first inning and four in the fifth to support a complete-game, seven-hit effort from lefty Ginger Reeser (13-2).
Mobile sent eight batters to the plate in the opening frame and got RBI base hits from Jessica McIntyre, Cristina Rodriguez and Kelyn Mendoza to take a 3-0 lead.
The Lady Rams then put the game away in the fifth by starting the frame with five consecutive hits and batting around to score four more runs and take a 7-0 lead. Yaicey Sojo finished 2-for-4, Jessica McIntyre and Cristina Rodriguez each finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and Kelyn Mendoza drove in a pair and went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The finale saw the Lady Rams score early and often, capping an 11-run outburst with a five-spot in the fourth inning to take a five-inning run-rule victory.
Mobile used power in the third and fourth innings to cap the scoring. Jineth Pimentel blasted a three-run homer in the third and then Kelyn Mendoza smacked a three-run double and Yaicey Sojo hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning for the Lady Rams.
Nikki Madden picked up the victory by working five innings of five-hit ball. Sojo went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer at the plate, Taylor Lee Phillips finished 2-for-2, Jennifer Gomez went 3-for-3 and Pimentel went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer.
For Spring Hill, Brittany Abate (6-7) took the loss in the first game while Samantha Brooks (10-12) was the loser in the nightcap. Shortstop Jessica Walters, designated player Carlene Bolton and catcher Brooke Turlich each recorded a pair of hits for their efforts on the afternoon.
Mobile (31-7, 9-3 GCAC) and Spring Hill (18-26, 2-10 GCAC) both play at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament in Clinton, Miss., beginning on Friday.
