Game at a glance
The Spring Hill College volleyball team defeated Faulkner University 3-2 and, in the process, avenged an earlier 3-2 loss to the Lady Eagles that occurred on September 24 in Montgomery. The Lady Badgers won the rematch 30-19, 33-35, 19-30, 30-16 and 15-13.
In the first game, SHC used three four-point runs to stretch a close 9-8 score out to a 21-15 lead. The Lady Badgers then used excellent team passing and defense to keep Faulkner at arm’s length throughout the remainder of the game.
Game Two was a thriller that saw the Lady Eagles (21-12) build a 15-10 advantage until the Badgers battled back to cut the lead to one point at 20-21. Faulkner, however, maintained a 29-26 hold at game point and Spring Hill refused to buckle taking the game into the thirties. The Badgers then grabbed a 33-32 advantage, but Faulkner was able to claw out the 35-33 victory. Eight Badger service errors proved costly in the second game.
Games Three and Four proved to be reverse images of each other as Faulkner dominated the third game 30-19 with Spring Hill appearing to suffer the lasting effects of losing a heartbreaking second game. Nevertheless, Head Coach Beth Ring regrouped the Lady Badgers for the fourth game and used her team’s quickness and passing skills to outmaneuver the power game of the Lady Eagles for a 30-16 victory.
Game Five was a fitting climax to the evening as neither squad could find more than a three-point lead and the score was tied four times, the last being at 13-13 before the Lady Badgers pulled out the final 15-13 win.
Spring Hill (13-13) now travels to Jackson, Miss., for a weekend tournament beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday with a match at Millsaps College.
